FAQs

is jiu jitsu for me or my children?

absolutely! regardless of your age, weight, or athleticism; we can help you learn and grow through jiu jitsu. with hard work and consistency, you will see progress and feel rewarded as you advance through the ranks.

being capable of defending yourself should be a more prioritized life skill! kids who understand the consequence of physical confrontation are less likely to seek it out. confident men and women are less likely to feel a need to prove themselves for others. jiu jitsu teaches other important life skills such as patience, bearing, and camaraderie.

We offer classes in both Gi, the traditional kimono commonly worn in other martial arts, and NOgi, shirts and shorts.

is it fighting?

there is no striking of any kind allowed. we obtain control through takedowns and pins while ultimately working to put our partners in positions that they are unable to escape from without causing themselves harm. this allows us to train as hard or soft as we’d like to, ending sparring sessions when we become uncomfortable or feel any pain and resetting to a neutral position to start again.

Do i have to spar?

you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. we encourage everyone to apply the techniques they learn with resisting partners either during positional training or during live rounds but you should only do what you’re comfortable with. move at your own pace and allow yourself the opportunity to grow!

what do i need to start training?

you should have a good attitude and a willingness to learn. wear clothes that you’d work out in, shirts and shorts are perfect to come try a class. we have a pro shop with all the gear you will need including gi’s and rashguards

when is class?

we will be adding classes as necessary but here’s our current schedule

how do i get there?

turn on 18th, off ryan, and we’re behind the palm plaza at 2800 Deaton ST suite 200
